Tooling for display assembly

Brabant Engineering developed specialised tooling for filling a switchable display capillary with oil. While the client had in-depth knowledge of the display itself, Brabant Engineering was brought in to design and deliver all the tools required to manufacture the display as a complete unit.

The challenge

This project presented multiple technical challenges. The oil had to be evenly distributed between two delicate glass plates, without air bubbles or material loss. Since the oil is expensive, any excess needed to be recovered for reuse. After filling, the glass plates had to be bonded with extreme precision, without shifting. Furthermore, as the display itself was still under development, the tools had to remain adaptable to evolving specifications.

The solution

Brabant Engineering delivered a fully adjustable tool, equipped with vacuum tables to securely hold the glass plates in position. This allowed the operator to work hands-free and inject the oil in a controlled manner. A smart recovery system was designed to collect any excess oil in a dedicated gutter for reuse.

Following this success, we were commissioned to start the next development phase: redesigning the housing for the display.
